About

Picture

Roy Ferreira is passionate about two things...spearfishing and freediving. As a kid growing up in Southern California, he could always be found around water, whether it be surfing the Orange County beaches or in the pool playing water polo. And when there weren't any waves, Roy scoured the Laguna Beach reefs chasing Garibaldis and octopus!

After college and a career in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) in support of Standing Naval Forces Mediterranean (SNFM), Operations Southern Watch (OSW), Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Iraqi Freedom (OEF), Roy settled in Miami in 2003 and immediately fell in love with the warm Atlantic waters. He started off freediving for lobster off Miami Beach and soon after picked up freeshaft spearfishing within 6 months of moving to Miami and got hooked on Freediving. If the seas are flat, you can almost guarantee that he'll be in the water spearfishing. As a multilevel freediving instructor, Roy's goal is to provide the most personalized instruction to make you a better, safer, and more confident freediver.

"I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it is because in addition to the fact that the sea changes and the light changes, and ships change, it is because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it we are going back from whence we came."
